The women's cross country teams successful 2016 campaign ended at the NJCAA National Championship meet with their highest national finish since 2012 and 2^nd Highest finish ever at the NJCAA Division 1 level. This was also one of the largest racing fields ever hosted for the national championships, with 65 teams and over 300 runners represented across the United States. Lansing Community College (MI), defended their national championship, winning the race that had the first 4 teams split by the slimmest of margins, 8 points. The meet was hosted by Butler Community College in El Dorado, KS.

Highland Community College finished 26^th place in the large field, to complete a great season that saw the women reach the national rankings 2 times, for the first time in several years. Lakashia Willis (Madison, GA) led the Lady Scotties for the 7^th time this season, placing 88^th with a time of 20:11.  Ivanna Uribe (Omaha, NE) saved her best race for the season on the biggest stage running the 20^th fastest time in school history.   Ivanna placed 123^rd with a time of 20:36. Katie Corrigan (Glendale, AZ), placed 215^th, Gisel Santiago (Kissimee, FL) placed 227^th, and Juliette Rios (San Antonio, TX) placed 232^nd, rounding out the team scoring.

Coach Clevenger on the National Meet: We felt at the beginning of the season, we had a legitimate shot of finishing in the top 25, but things would need to fall into place perfectly for that to happen. We came awfully close only 19 points from 25^th, but we were right in the mix.  We competed well, and really couldn't be happier with our performance, and end result. We ended up beating a handful of teams that beat us earlier in the season, and a few teams that came in ranked. I feel we have really set a solid foundation for our program, and we plan to get better. This was a great first season as women's coach, with a great group that genuinely cares for each other.
