Scottie Park

Scottie Park began with an idea over a kitchen table during a Scottie Booster Club meeting.  The Highland Softball Program had shared facilities with Scottie Baseball or practiced and played its games 12 miles down the road at Troy’s Slow-Pitch field since its beginning in 1980.  Looking for a way to improve both Softball & Baseball, Scottie Booster Russell Karn offered the current location for the development of a new softball facility and got the city of Highland to allow the installation of a grass infield at the Community Ball Park.  The College provided a one-time gift of $10,000 to the Booster Club for the development of both projects.  Athletic Director Tom Smith and other volunteers were instrumental in breaking ground in the fall of 1998 and began constructing the original field the following spring.  Russell & Joann Karn, who lease the property at gratis to the College, have continued to improve the facility to its current condition today.  The George & Bettie Karn Clubhouse is used for games, team meetings as well as public functions.  Do to the efforts of the members of the Scottie Booster Club Scottie Park has become the Jewel of KJCCC Softball facilities and has had a small part in the success of HCC Softball over the past 18 years.
