Scotties defeat ranked Greyhounds

The Scottie Volleyball team was back on their home court this evening to take on #14 ranked Fort Scott Community College. HCC came into this game 3-2 in conference play and were ready to take on the 3-1 Greyhounds.

The whole Scottie volleyball team came out focused and intense from point number one and never slowed up. The first set went in favor of the Scotties 25-17 behind powerful performances by Tyrecia Lukes, Shailey Caudle, and Leslie Polanco.

The second set proved no contest for the Scotties as they got off to a quick 7-2 lead and never looked back. The momentum was strong to the finish and ended the set 25-18.

The third set went back and forth between the Greyhounds and the Scotties, but once the score was tied up at 17-17, the Scotties prevailed and ended the set 25-19.

Lukes had a phenomenal game as she had 12 kills on 20 attempts with only 1 block finishing with a .550 hitting percentage. Her blocking was just as great with 4 big solo blocks, 1 block assist with Polanco, and she added 2 digs. Polanco herself had a great showing tonight as she had 11 kills on 26 attempts with only 2 errors hitting a .346. She added in 4 service aces and 8 digs on defense. HCC Athlete of the week, Caudle, had a great game as she had 7 digs and 10 kills. Megan Rhule stood out as she controlled the set assists with 33 while also having one ace and 9 defensive digs. Emily Nelson added to the teams digs service ace column with 2 and had six digs of her own.

After the game in our post game show Coach Bingesser expressed his thoughts, "I thought we played exceptionally well. We took control right off the bat…we definitely got our offense started right away."

The Scotties will travel to Chanute, Kansas this weekend to play in the Panther Invite. They will compete against Southeast CC at 3:00pm and Ottaway University JV at 7:00pm on Friday. Saturday HCC will take on McCook CC JV at 11:00am and Allen CCC at 3:00pm. The Highland Scotties are now 13-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
