Box Score 4 The #18 Scottie volleyball team traveled to Council Bluffs, IA to the campus of the Iowa Western CC Reivers to take part in a tough tournament taking on Colby Community College, #3 D1 Iowa Western CC, Monroe CC, and Independence CC. A long five set match loss to start the tournament against Colby CC put the Scotties in a rut as they lost to host Iowa Western and Monroe CC both in three sets. Highland ended the weekend in a 3-0 win over the Independence Pirates to finish 1-3.
Freshman setter
Katie Pearson solidified a personal best of surpassing her 1,000 set assists making her overall total 1,094 thus far during the season. She is currently 3rd in the KJCCC in total assists and in assists per set (9.35). She dished out 113 on the weekend with a teams total of 130 kills.
Leslie Polanco had another double-double on the tournament with 53 kills and 62 digs along with six assists. Polanco is 2nd in the KJCCC in total kills (438) and in kills per set (3.74), and is sixth in total digs with 486. Libero
Kirsten Johnson tied her career best in the loss against Colby with 29 digs and had a total of 70 digs.
GAME RESULTS:
Highland CC vs. Colby CC 3-2 (25-22, 25-27, 22-25, 25-14, 13-15)
The team had eight solo blocks and totaled 106 digs over Colby's 72 but were just short in every other stat column. Polanco and
Koie Orozco both produced double-doubles on the game (19 kills, 18 digs) (11 kills, 13 digs). Johnson led the defense with 29 digs with help by Pearson (17) and
Tyah Barnett (10).
Highland CC vs. #3 Iowa Western CC 0-3 (15-25, 6-25, 14-25)
Highland's defense kept them in the tough match against the Reivers with Johnson leading with 12 digs and Barnett contributed eight and Polanco with seven. Pearson came up with 14 assists on the teams 16 kills.
Highland CC vs. Monroe CC 0-3 (11-25, 15-25, 21-25)
The Scotties played their first team from New York and were swept in three sets. Sophomore
Zealia Kleitz led the offense with nine kills followed by Polanco (7) and
Emma Cohalla (6). Pearson had 24 assists and the team had 54 total digs.
Highland CC vs. Independence CC 3-0 (32-30, 25-17, 25-22)
Polanco earned her 19th double-double this season with 19 kills and 18 digs. Pearson dished out 39 assists and the team had eight aces. Three more Scotties were in double digit digs in the three set win; Johnson (17), Orozco (10), and Wagner (10).
