Tournament hopes cut short on Sunday afternoon

For just the second time in eight years, the Scottie Softball team will not be headed to the National Tournament at the end of the month as Highland's tournament run was stopped short on Sunday afternoon after an 11-7 loss to Johnson County CC Sunday afternoon.

The Scotties took the lead early lead in the first inning after a Sydney Anderson RBI double that scored Maddie Moore. They added to their lead in the second putting together a 2-run, 2-out rally. It started off with a Sam Moran double followed by a Kenzie Garvin single. Maddie Moore cleared the bases with a 2-RBI triple to deep left center field. Highland lead 3-0.

Johnson County scored two runs in the bottom of the second to bring the game within one, HCC still leading 3-2.

The Cavaliers took their first lead of the game in the third after scoring two runs pushing them ahead of the Scotties 4-3.

In the top of the fifth, Sydney Anderson got RBI number two of the game and tied the game at 4-4 driving home Maddie Moore with a single. The inning wasn't over for Highland as Julisa Ortega hit a 2-RBI single regaining the lead for the Scotties, 6-4.

They didn't hold the lead long as the Cavaliers pieced together a 7-run inning in the fifth. The inning was started by third baseman Taylor Kirk who hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at 6-6. They went on to score five more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 11-6 lead.

Sydney Anderson hit a leadoff solo homerun in the top of seven but the Scotties would fall short losing 11-7 and ending their season 35-12.

Sydney Anderson finished 3-3 with 3-RBI's and 1-run scored and Maddie Moore went 3-3 with 2-RBI's and 2-runs scored. Julisa Ortega added 2-RBI's in the loss.
