Box Score 4 The 2017-18 Highland Volleyball team set their mark high as they went 4-0 against all non-conference teams at the Southeast Tournament in Beatrice, NE on Friday and Saturday.
The team swept North Platte Community College 3-0 to start off on a high note early on Friday before taking on Williston State College. Williston took the first set from the Scotties but the momentum still remained on Highland's side winning the next three to take the game.
On Saturday, Highland faced the #15 ranked Northeast Community College out of Norfolk, NE. The ranking did not phase the Scotties as they beat them 3-1. The final game of the weekend was against the home team Southeastern. The Storm found a way to take the first set from the Scotties but the fight was still rolling as the Scotties won a hard fought battle to cap off the weekend undefeated.
"Overall I thought the weekend went very well. We faced some very good competition and the way we responded to each team was fun to watch. We played with a couple different line-ups and it was exciting to see the depth we have on this team. I thought we had a great match against Williston. Leslie and our middles were each pulling triple blocks and starting in that second set, we were really able to adjust and find shots around it. Against Northeast we came out strong. Northeast did make some adjustments in the second set, but we were able to maintain our offensive plan the 3rd and 4th sets. I was very impressed with Zealia. She had over 15 kills in three of our four matches. She took charge the last set against Southeast and scored the last 4 points to come back from 21-23 to win the match. It was great to see that side of her come out this early. I also was impressed with our setters. I thought they made great decisions and kept us calm in those tight sets. Leslie also had a phenomenal weekend. She is such a great athlete and has such a strong mindset. It is really fun to watch her play," said Highland Head Coach
Jon Bingesser.
Highland will travel to Ottumwa, IA to take on Indian Hills on Wednesday at 6:00PM.
