Volleyball Stretches Win Streak to 14 Tying a School Record

The roll continues as the Highland volleyball team stretched their win streak to 14-straight on Tuesday afternoon beating Bethany College JV and Iowa Lakes Community College.

Highland cruised to a pair of three set wins on Tuesday as the Scotties have now won 12 sets in a row with the two three set wins.

Afternoon started with the Scotties asserting dominance early against Bethany JV as Katie Pearson opened the action with an ace and Highland went on a 7-0 run to start the set. Highland only gave up four points in the first set as the Scotties cruised past the Swedes of Bethany College. Set two started strong for Highland too as the Scotties opened the set on a 5-0 run and used that to push the lead even further. The Scotties lead grew to double figures and it was set point at 24-8 after the sister act struck with a block as Hannah and Abby Williams gave the Scotties set point and ultimately Highland took set two 25-11. Set three was 1-0 Bethany before Highland went on a 4-0 run but the match worked to a 4-4 tie. Once Highland regained the lead in set three they were able to finish off the match with a 25-15 set three win.

Cohalla led the action upfront posting 11 kills, Pearson tallied 25 assists and six digs in the win over Bethany JV. Hannah Williams had seven kills and a pair of two blocks, while Myla Turner notched 18 digs and Allen finished with five kills and six digs.

In the second contest of the day Highland faced off with Iowa Lakes Community College and picked up another three set win. After a 2-0 start to set one Iowa Lakes worked to a 3-2 advantage only to Highland to take control growing the lead to double figures in the set taking set one 25-15. Set two started with a Cajia Allen kill and Highland opened the set on a 5-0 run, however the lead disappeared as the match was worked to a 11-11 tie. Highland put together another 4-0 run to regain control and with Hannah Williams leading the way the Scotties finished set two 25-16 as Williams recorded multiple kills down the stretch. In set three it was tied at 2-2 before Highland went on a 5-0 run to control the set and the Scotties used a Emma Cohalla skull crushing hit and plenty of other plays to secure set three finishing it on a 6-0 run to win the set 25-13 and take the match.

Lee Sexton tallied 14 kills to spear head the offense for Highland, while Cohalla chipped in 13 kills and Hannah Williams finished with nine kills. Pearson posted a double-double with 36 assists and 14 digs, while adding a pair of kills in the win over Iowa Lakes. Turner led the team defensively with 15 digs.

Highland's season continues on Friday and Saturday, October 5th and 6th in the final regular season tournament action for the Scotties as they will compete at the DMACC tournament in Boone, Iowa playing MCC, Waubonsee, Rochester Community & Tech College and DMACC. Scotties return home on Wednesday, October 10th when they host #7 Cowley for KJCCC action at 5:30pm.
