Box Score 2 The Highland softball team was hot off a 5-0 weekend at the Cloud County Tournament and brought all of that energy down to Iola, KS where they won in dominant fashion over the Allen CC Red Devils in a doubleheader.
Game one
With the Red Devils starting out with a 3-0 start, the Scotties fired back in the top of the second with seven runs; five of those runs off of home runs by
Kelly Uthe,
Sam Moran, and
Aubry Hernandez. Uthe started on the mound for Highland but after five more runs were scored closing the gam 8-9,
Julisa Ortega came in to relieve her in the bottom of the fourth.
The top of the sixth solidified a solid lead starting out with a two run home run by Moran. Hernandez knocked one out next scoring
Kendra Baldridge and
Sydney Anderson. The bats stayed hot and left the Scotties with an eventual 21-8 lead. The Red Devils got two more runs on the board but the victory went to the Scotties 21-10.
Game two
A repeat of game one started out with a 3-0 Red Devil lead over the Scotties but
Alexis Hodapp hit a hard fly ball to right field for an RBI to get the runs started in the 2nd. RBI were earned by Moran,
Alyssa Wesley, Anderson, and Hernandez before the third out with a 7-3 lead. Reagan Hamm hits her first home run of the season extending the lead 8-3 in the 3rd.
Six more runs were earned in the fourth giving the Scotties a 14-3 lead.
McKinley Jeannerett made a diving catch in left field then threw to 3rd for the double-play to end the game!
The #3 Highland Scottie softball team is now 10-1 on the year and will with host the first home doubleheader of the season on Friday, March 9th with the first pitch scheduled at 1:00 against Iowa Western.
