Box Score 2 Highland volleyball team stretched their win streak to four-straight matches with a pair of wins on Friday night at home picking up a three set Jayhawk Conference win over Allen CC and another three set win over Benedictine JV to finish the night.
Scotties opened the night in impressive fashion behind a balanced display and it started with a
Cajia Allen kill to open the first set against Allen CC and Highland went on to start the night on a 5-0 run. Allen CC answered with a 3-0 run to draw within two but the Scotties picked it back up and grew the lead throughout the set going up by double figures at 19-9. Highland finished the set on a 6-2 run and a
Savannah Griesemer kill was the exclamation point for a 25-11 set one win. After a 3-2 set two Allen CC lead in set two the Scotties tied the match at 3-3 and then went on an 8-1 run to own an 11-4 lead. The lead in set two drew to double figures at 18-8 behind an
Emma Cohalla kill and the Scotties finished the set strong with a Griesemer kill to finish the set 25-12. Set three was tied several times throughout the start of the set and the Scotties did not take their first lead in the set until 12-11 and Highland held the lead the rest of the way finishing the set and match on a
Hannah Williams and
Katie Pearson block to win 25-16 in set three and take the match and KJCCC win over Allen CC.
Highland had balance on display against Allen CC as Allen led the team in kills with 10, while Cohalla tallied nine and both
Lee Sexton and Williams each notched six. Three ladies posted eight more digs each as
Myla Turner had 12 to lead the team, while Allen added nine and Pearson had eight to go along with her 29 assists.
Kirsten Johnson tallied one dig in the win and now ranks second all-time in school history in career digs.
In the second matchup of the night for Highland the Scotties faced off with Benedictine College JV who beat Allen (25-17, 25-21, 25-19) in the second matchup of the Triangular on the night. Scotties took advantage of Benedictine mistakes getting the first six points of set one because of Benedictine miscues and worked to a 6-2 lead. The lead expanded as the Scotties led 12-5 after a Cohalla ace and pushed the led to 18-8 in the first set finishing the set 25-10 on a Cohalla kill. Set two saw the Scotties open the set on a 6-0 run and control it from that point on going up double figures midway through the set and cruising to a set two 25-11 win. After a 2-0 start to the third set by Benedictine Highland mounted an 9-0 run and never looked back grabbing the set three win 25-13 to take the match in three sets over Benedictine College JV.
Cohalla paced the team with 11 kills against Benedictine JV adding an ace and three digs in the match, while Pearson once again tallied 29 assists and finished with 10 digs. Turner led the team in digs with 14 in the match, while Allen had 10 digs and seven kills. Griesemer chipped in seven kills in the Scottie win.
The 2-0 night improves Highland to 14-2 on the season and the win over Allen makes the Scotties 2-1 in KJCCC play. Highland heads out on the road for their next action as they travel to Parson, Kansas to play Labette CC on Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30pm in a KJCCC matchup.
