Scotties Push Win Streak to 12 With Two Wins at Home Triangular

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Highland volleyball continues to chalk up wins stretching their win streak to 12-straight matches giving the team the third longest single season win streak in school history as Highland beat Ottawa JV and Southeast Community College on Friday night.

Scotties picked up a four set win (22-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-12) and cruised past Southeast CC in three-straight sets (25-19, 25-8, 25-12).

Highland started the night working to an early lead as Cajia Allen had a big skull crushing kill to give the Scotties an 8-6 advantage in set one but Ottawa JV hung tough and took a 13-12 lead and went on a 9-2 run to go up 17-13 and used that to take set one over Highland 22-25. The Scotties answered in set two going up 5-1 early and pushing the lead out further and Emma Cohalla finished the set with a kill giving up Highland set two 25-15. Set three was tight with both teams owning leads and both putting together 5-0 runs late in the match with Highland holding off Southeast to win set three 26-24. Set four belonged to Highland as the Scotties got a big kill by Lee Sexton to open the set and a huge Hannah Williams block early also. A 5-0 run early gave Highland control and went on to lead by double figures winning the fifth set 25-12.

Cohalla led the team in kills in the win over Ottawa JV as she had her sixth double figure kill performance in the last eight matches finishing with a team best 17 in the match adding three digs and two blocks. Sexton tallied a 16 kill performance as Allen had her eighth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. Katie Pearson once again helped pave the way finishing with 44 assists and 18 digs, while Myla Turner had 23 digs her fifth 20+ dig performance. Amber Hildebrand matched her career high with 15 digs. Overall the Scotties had 10 different ladies record a kill in the win over Ottawa JV.

The night wrapped up for Highland with a 3-0 win over Southeast CC a match that the Scotties dominated. Off to a 4-0 start in set one the Scotties soon had a 12-5 lead and led by nine late in the set going on to secure the set one win 25-19. Set two Southeast started off going up 4-1 but the Scotties answered in a big way going on a 7-0 run to lead 8-4 and then finished the match outscoring Southeast 24-4 from the 4-1 point of the set, winning set two 25-8. After trading 2-0 runs early in set three the Scotties went on a 4-0 run to lead 8-4 and grew the lead from that point on winning set three 25-12 to take the match.

Pearson set up the offense with 29 assists in the win adding five digs, while Turner recorded 16 digs at her libero spot and Allen had 10 kills. Both Hildebrand and Hannah Wagner each notched six digs, while Wagner added five kills. Overall in the match it was Cohalla once more leading the charge for the Scotties finishing with 16 kills, five blocks and three digs her five blocks pushes her to second all-time in career blocks in school history.

The wins for the Scotties moved their win streak to 12-straight matches and improved the team's record to 22-2 on the season. The fifth ranked Scotties continue the season at home on Tuesday, October 2nd in the Highland Quad playing Bethany College JV and Iowa Lakes Community College at 2:00 & 4:00pm at the Walter's Wellness Center.
