After a switch up in schedule at the start of the season the Highland softball team got the season rolling on February 14
th as they took on Bethany JV in Lindsborg, Kansas.
In what was supposed to be a doubleheader the Scotties were able to pick up an 18-6 win in game one but game two was called because of the cold temperatures and did not qualify as a full game.
After a scoreless first inning Highland got on the board with a three run top of the second and led 3-1 after two full innings. Scotties continued to score the rest of the game plating three more in the third, busting out for an eight run fourth inning and adding four more in the top of the fifth. While Bethany JV posted four in the fourth and one in the fifth but it wasn't enough to keep the game going as the Scotties captured the win 18-6 in five innings.
Scotties pounded out 17 hits to produce their 18 runs and drew seven walks in the contest.
Sara Shinn posted a 4-4 day at the plate with four RBI's and three runs scored to lead the Scottie offense. Four other Scotties registered multi-hit games as
Isabella Konieczka went 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI's,
Alyssa Wesley was 2-3 with a run scored,
Sirena Salazar finished 2-2 with two runs scored and a walk and
McKinley Jeanneret posted a 2-3 day with a double, three RBI's and a run scored.
On the mound
Sarah Bond tossed five innings to earn the win giving up six runs on nine hits and eight walks, while striking out one.
Highland continues their season on Saturday, February 23
rd and Sunday, February 24
th when they travel to Enid, Oklahoma to play Western Nebraska and Northern Oklahoma-Enid.
