On Sunday, the #6 Highland Scotties took on the #10 Labette Cardinals in Parsons, Kansas. The Scotties took the first game of the doubleheader 9-5. This win broke the record for most conference wins in program history, the previous record was held by the class of 2012 with 23 wins. The win also secured the KJCCC Title making it the 5th conference title claimed by the softball program which is the most by any sport in Highland Community College history.
The Scotties enter the regional tournament on a hot streak, sweeping seven of their last eight opponents. Lilli Weir leading the conference (#6 in the Nation) in total strikeouts (180). Weir is also #2 in the conference in earned run average (2.53) and #3 in the conference in wins (15). Gabby Schultz is top 5 in the conference in runs batted in (54) and Aliks Serna is also top 5 in the conference in total home runs (13).
Highland enters postseason ranked #6 in the final NJCAA Division II poll. The ranking marks 41 straight weeks the polls. The Scotties (41-7) will enter the tournament as a one seed and play the eight seed Hesston Larks (20-22) on Friday, May 14 at 12 p.m. The winners game (north field) and losers game (south field) will be at 2 p.m on Friday.
