The #5 seeded Highland Scotties lost their first game of the NJCAA playoffs today to #1 seeded Phoenix by the score of 9-1.
The Scotties, usually an offensive powerhouse, ran in to a buzzsaw pitcher today in Phoenix's Brianna Hardy. Hardy, who is 30-0 this season, pitched a complete game, allowing only one hit with 12 strikeouts.
Highland got on the scoreboard in the top of the 1st inning, as the school's All-Time leader in walks, Cheyenne Minnick drew a walk and then stole 2nd base to put her in scoring position. Gabby Schultz then drove a single up the middle to score Minnick. Unfortunately, that would be the last hit for the Scotties in the game.
Today's 4th round game from the play-in bracket will begin at 6 p.m. in Oxford, Alabama. The Scotties opponent for this afternoon will be Mississippi - Gulf Coast. All tournament games will be broadcasted on the NJCAA channel and a link will be provided at scottieathletics.com.
