KANSAS CITY, Kan. - After rallying for an explosive upset on Wednesday night, no.5 seed Highland (29-9) wasn't able to keep the momentum rolling at no. 1 seed Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (24-5) in the NJCAA Plains District A Championship. The Scotties fell 3-1 (25-22, 25-14, 25-19) to the Blue Devils on Sunday.
A solo block by
Aubrey Kesler at 3-1 briefly interrupted an 11-5 run by KCKCC to open the match, but Highland was able to string together a couple of runs itself to tie the score at 15-15 and force a Blue Devils timeout.
Coming out of the stoppage, a kill by
Cali Honeyman gave the Scotties a brief 16-15 lead, but KCKCC answered with a 6-0 run of its own to retake the lead at 21-16. Highland mustered a brief surge, staving off set point four times before falling 25-22 in the first.
Highland wasn't able to sustain a rhythm in the second set, scoring back-to-back points only twice in the frame, but the Scotties were undeterred heading to the third set.
After a 5-1 run by KCKCC to start the third set, Highland managed to rally back with a 10-3 run of its own to take an 11-8 lead. Kesler collected a pair of block assists during the run, following with a kill to put the Scotties up 12-10 after a KCKCC timeout.
The Scotties were able to answer a surge by the Blue Devils with one of their own to tie the third set at 18-18, but the no. 1 seed was able to pull away with a 7-1 run to close out the match.
Highland finishes the 2025 season with a 29-9 record.
