CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Ranked seventh in the nation with 526 kills, freshman outside hitter
Cali Honeyman earned NJCAA Division II Volleyball Second Team All-American honors as announced by the association today. Honeyman is the third All-American in program history, with all three honorees coming under the tutelage of head coach
Andrea Keller.
"Cali is incredibly deserving of this honor, and we are thrilled to see her achieve national recognition," said Keller. "Leading the KJCCC in kills is an accomplishment in itself, especially given the outstanding talent within our conference. Her work ethic is second to none, which makes this recognition even more meaningful."
Honeyman averaged 4.46 kills per set across 38 matches for the Scotties, good for 10th nationally, with her total kills and kills per set both first in the Jayhawk Conference. The Seneca, Kan., native also accounted for a league-best 584.5 total points - combining kills, blocks and service aces - which ranked seventh nationally as well.
The Nemaha Central product was recognized as the NJCAA Divsion II Offensive Player of the Week following a 4-1 week 2 record against NJCAA competition for the Scotties that saw her finish with double-digit kills in five of Highland's six matches. She helped HCC to a 29-9 overall record on the season, with a 5-4 conference record and a first-round upset of fourth-seeded no. 11 Neosho County in the NJCAA Plains District A Tournament.
"She is also remarkably humble and would be the first to credit her teammates for helping her earn this award," added Keller. "This was a special season for Scottie Volleyball, and Cali's All-American honor is truly icing on the cake."
Honeyman joins Renee Luster (Second Team, 2006) and Macie Kuker (First Team, 2010) as NJCAA All-American honorees for the Scotties, with Leslie Polanco (2016) and Emma Cohalla (2018) earning honorable mention.
