NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. - Despite seeing its seven-match season-opening winning streak come to an end, Highland Volleyball turned in an outstanding weekend performance at the Siouxland Invitational, finishing with a 3-1 record in tournament play.
Friday's action saw Highland taking on a pair of nationally-ranked opponents - no. 3 (D III) Minnesota West and no. 9 Iowa Central - in back-to-back matches. After a hard-fought first set, the Scotties claimed a 3-1 win over the Bluejays (20-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-23) but weren't able to hold their second-set momentum against the Tritons, falling 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 17-25).
HCC bounced back on Saturday with a pair of 3-0 sweeps, downing the Minnesota North - Rainy River Voyageurs (25-16, 25-17, 25-17) and holding off late charges in the second and third sets by North Iowa Area Community College (25-11, 25-21, 25-21)
Cali Honeyman had 72 kills for the Scotties in the tournament, with a season-high 20 against Iowa Central.
Highland continues its road swing, opening the 2025 KJCCC schedule on Wednesday at Fort Scott. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. against the Greyhounds.
