Scotties Blast Past Bobcats, Comets On Saturday

LINCOLN, Neb. - After its near-upset of no. 17 Neosho County on Wednesday night, Highland rebounded to bolster its overall record to 15-3, sweeping past Southeast Community College 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-12) and downing Western Iowa Tech 3-1 (16-25, 25-13, 25-13, 25-21) on Saturday.

The Scotties hit at a solid .241 pace against the Bobcats, peaking at a .407 pace in the second set. HCC spread out the spoils, with Karsyn Kempinger and Cierra Poldberg leading the team with six kills each. Nine of the 12 Scotties in the match registered a kill against the Bobcats, with HCC also adding eight total blocks, including three solos by Cara Elam.

Against Western Iowa Tech, Highland ran into a much stouter blocking squad, as the Comets mustered 17 total blocks in the match (8 solo, 9 assist), but the Scotties powered through on the strength of 13 kills from Cali Honeyman and seven each from Poldberg and Jaala Stewart.
