Sandy Moran enters her second season as Head Coach for cross country and track and field at Highland. She joined the staff in the Spring of 2020. 

The Jackson, Wisconsin native joins the Scotties bring familiarity of the Jayhawk Conference with her as she comes over from Cloud County Community College where she spent a little over a year at as an assistant track and field coach. In her time at Cloud County she was part of a men’s Outdoor team championship in 2019 and fifth place finish for the men in 2020 Indoor season as a team, while also being part of Region titles along with Region runner-up finishes for the men and women at Cloud County. Moran primarily worked with the throwers (shot put, discus, javelin, weight throw) at Cloud County leading multiple male and female throwers to Nationals and places on the podium at Nationals including a National runner-up in the men’s shot put during the 2020 Indoor season, while also coaching multiple school record performers. She coached several All-Americans and also assisted in the Heptathlon while at Cloud County.

Prior to she served as an assistant coach at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois where she helped the program win a GLVC Conference title and worked with the throwers and pole vaulters. Moran also has head coaching experience serving as men’s and women’s cross country and track field at Humboldt State for six years. During her tenure at Humboldt State she won multiple Conference titles, had multiple National qualifiers, All-Americans, All-Conference performers, academic All-Conference performers and more. She also had coaching stints at Portland State, Southern Illinois, Campbell Universities and Tolono Unity high school.

Moran received her Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a member of the cross country team and a distance runner on the track and field team. Moran also served as the President of the Student Athletic Board. She earned her Master's degree in Kinesiology from Campbell University. 

She owns Level II certifications through the USATF in the throws, jumps and multi events, is a USA Weightlifting certified coach, and has been certified in strength and conditioning by the NSCA-CSCS.
