The Highland Scotties volleyball team travled down to Parsons, Kansas to take on the Labette Cardinals in their 5th conference game this season. The Scotties were 2-2 in conference play and looking to start out the week with a big conference win.
The first set was in the hands of the Scotties as they gained a big lead before the Cardinals called a timeout at 14-7. The score continued to 17-9 before the Cardinals went on a 5 point run, inching their way back into the game forcing Highland to a timeout at 17-14. The rest of the first set was back and forth with errors hurting both teams. Labette came out on top and took the first set 29-27.
The second and third sets were in control by the Scotties as the focus on lessening errors was noticed with the ending scores of 25-17 and 25-13.
The fourth set was a constant battle but the Highland Scotties came out with the victory beating Labette 26-24.
Shailey Caudle had an outstanding evening as she recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 17 digs being the leader of the team in both.
Leslie Polanco had an all around great game as she recorded 9 kills with only 2 errors hitting a .304 while adding 16 digs of her own along with 5 service aces.
Josie Vitosh had a career high 23 set assist, also hitting a .556 with 5 kills and zero errors and 8 digs.
Marianna Falls was a big force playing all six rotations; she had 9 kills and 14 digs respectively.
The Highland Scotties are now 12-5 on the year and 3-2 in conference play. Their next game is at home against the Fort Scott Hounds on Wednesday, September 28th at 5:30pm.Â
