Scotties Soar Past Larks


 
Highland reached triple-digits for the 9th time this season with a 100-31 win over Hesston College on Wednesday night from the Yost Center in Hesston, KS.
 
Led by sophomore Szonja Vukov, the Scotties jumped out to a 47-18 lead after the first two quarters. Vukov scored 12 of her 18 points in the first half shooting 5-5 from the field. She also pulled down eight rebounds to help the Scotties take a 29-point lead into halftime.
 
Sophomores Tiana Cook and Ashlyn McDonald both had strong offensive performances with Cook scoring 15 points and McDonald scoring 13 and both grabbing six rebounds. Mariane Carvalho was the other Scottie in double figures with 12 points. Carvalho also added three steals and two blocks.
 
Highland shot 46% from the floor and 36% from behind the arc on the night while holding Hesston to 16% from the floor and 6% from three-point range. Highland out rebounded Hesston 51-14 and forced the Larks into 24 turnovers.
 
The Scotties, now ranked #4 in NJCAA Division II, are 1-0 in Region VI play and 17-1 overall. They will take on Conference & Region rival Johnson County CC on Monday, January 23rd, a re-scheduled game from last Saturday's winter storm.
