Sophomore Szonja Vukov led the Scotties through a quick victory over the Southeast Community College Storm out of Beatrice, Neb. in a makeup game from earlier in the season in Ben Allen Field House. Vukov led in scoring with 20 points and led in rebounds with 13 earning her another double-double making her total 10 on the year and 25 on her career while at Highland which ties the All Time Career Record held by Karli Abbey set from 2009-2010.
The Scotties jumped out to a quick 46-13 lead heading into halftime, shooting 43.2% on their field goals and were 6-17 from the three point line. After recognizing the Doniphan West Jr. High girls basketball team at halftime for their undefeated season, HCC was ready to take on the second half. Mariane Carvalho took control of the boards for the Scotties in the second half grabbing a majority of her career high of 12. Highland's bench peformed well as they scored 28 coming off the bench led by Leondra Wilson who hit 2-5 from the three point line. Jameka Dowell and Blaize Burgess didn't disappoint as they contributed 12 and 16 points. HCC shined on rebounding pulling down 58 as a team while the Storm only handled 28.
The Highland Scottie women's basketball team will play here in Ben Allen Field House again on Wednesday evening at 5:30PM taking on Brown Mackie College.
