Box Score 2 The Highland Community College Scottie softball team took on the Independence Community College Pirates on a rescheduled, overcast and misty, Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates took the momentum early in game one as they score one in the top of the 1st inning. They continued to score the next three innings to take the lead 0-4 headed into the bottom of the 4th. Maddy Miller stepped up to the plate and hit a homerun over the left field fence to gain some momentum for the Scotties making the score 3-4. Maddie Moore stepped up for the Scotties the same inning to hit a double passed the Pirates 2nd baseman scoring two RBI's. Scotties end the bottom of the 4th ahead 5-4. The score remained stagnant until the bottom of the sixth. Scotties had three doubles throughout the inning from Audrina Hidalgo, Kayla Ross, and Sam Moran all RBI's expanding the lead 8-4. Kennadi Barron, your winning pitcher is now 1st in the region and 5th in the nation with a record of 11-3. Julisa Ortega struck out 5 as the relief pitcher.
The Scotties came out strong in the start of the game two with back to back homeruns in the 1st inning by Sydney Anderson and Aubrey Hernandez starting off with a 4-0 lead. The Pirates found their bats scoring 2 heading into the bottom of the third but Sam Hill would slam one over the left field fence for her first career home run as a Scottie pushing the lead 5-2. Pirates answered back in the top of the 4th with a two run homerun closing the gap 5-4. The Scotties continued to fight to keep their lead and score four in the bottom of the fourth: 9-4. With just one more run by the Pirates would not be enough and the Scotties would take game two 9-5.
The Highland Scottie softball team is now 18-6 on the year. They will take on the Labette Cardinals next Friday, March 31st at the Scottie Ball Park at 2 and 4 and again at home on Saturday, April 1st at 12 and 2 against Coffeyville Community College.
