Highland Women Use Big Second Half to Top Livin' the Dream

Behind a strong second half the #2 Highland women's basketball team rolled to an 81-46 win over Livin' the Dream to head into holiday break with a perfect 12-0 record.

The Scotties fell down 8-0 over the first two minutes of the game but answered with a 10-0 run of their own to take the lead however another 8-0 by Livin' the Dream lead by Jasmine Thompson gave them the lead back which they held 16-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Lead remained in the hands of Livin' the Dream for most of the second quarter but tied at 31-31 in the final seconds of the first half the Scotties got a three point bucket by Tiana Gipson at the buzzer to take a 34-31 lead into intermission.

Highland expanded their lead in the second half working the lead double figures at 45-34 with 6:05 left in the third quarter and then pushing the lead to 20-points at the two minute mark of the third, ultimately outscoring Livin' the Dream 24-5 in the third quarter. Scotties closed the game out with a 23-10 fourth quarter and sealed their 81-46 win.

The Scottie defense for the fifth time this season held an opponent under 30% shooting as Livin' the Dream shot just 28.6% from the floor and had 32 turnovers marking the sixth time the Scotties have forced 30+ turnovers in a game. Highland also had 21 steals in the contests and were led by a quartet of double figure scorers.

Stefania Chiziane and Gipson each netted 16 points on the night, while Janiya Davis tallied 15 points and Armani Turner scored 11. Chiziane added eight rebounds and four steals to her night, while Gipson was 4-9 from three point range. Davis had five steals and three rebounds and Turner finished her stat line nicely with six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

UP NEXT
Highland heads into holiday break with the win and will take the court again in January 1st and 2nd in the MAC New Year's Classic in Farmington, Missouri playing Moberly Area and Mineral Area Community Colleges on those days. Scotties next home game is slated for Saturday, January 5th versus McPherson JV.
