Box Score Highland Softball opened the 2018 season on Thursday early afternoon at NOC-Tonkawa, starting with a split losing the first game 0-8 and taking the second game 17-2.
Due to the weather in Plano, TX, the Scotties (1-1) will not be playing any games at the Cowtown Classic originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
GAME 1
Highland 0, NOC-Tonkawa 8
Kelly Uthe started her collegiate career on the mound for the Scotties in their first game this season. She threw 3 strike-outs and had help from the defense to help hold the Mavericks scoreless throughout the first three innings. The Scotties could not make any play offensively and saw the Mavs earn a 0-5 lead after a couple of hits to the outfield and a few errors in the bottom of the fourth.
Haley Donaldson came in to relive Uthe and got the team out of the inning.
Sam Moran hit a line drive to left field for a single to try and get something going. The bats were moving but just not enough for Highland, stranding Moran in the top of the 6th. NOC-Tonkawa gained three more runs in the bottom of the 6th by the defense's errors to end the game early 0-8.
GAME 2
Highland 17- NOC-Tonkawa
The Scotties were fueled up after losing their opening game and put it to the Mavs in the top of the 1st.
Cassidy Greer opened up the game with a single to center field, followed by Moran getting hit by the pitch, and Anderson earning a single to the short stop loading the bases. Hernandez got the points rolling with a 2 RBI single to center field.
Kami Zimmerman followed suit with a 2 RBI single up the middle after two more points had already been scored, ahead 6-0.
Raegan Hamm started the game on the mound with a great defense behind her retiring the side 3-up-3-down.
Alexis Hodapp hit the first home run of the Scotties season and her first of her career in the top of the 2nd helping the lead 9-0.
Six more runs were scored by Highland and the Mavs were working to gain some control scoring 2 run late in the bottom of the 3rd and 4th.
Alyssa Wesley solidfied a huge lead with a home 2 run home run in the top of the 5th leading the team to an early finish winning 17-2.
The Highland Softball team is 1-1 on the season and will host Benedictine in a double-header on Thursday, February 22nd starting at 1:00PM.
