The men were set to face the Fort Scott Greyhounds in the semi-final round of the Region VI Tournament after having a 'bye' for the first round of play. The Scotties had seen the Greyhounds twice this season, victorious both times, and stayed on top the third time around behind an excited crowd to win 78-71.
Holden Redparth and
Ryan Haskins knocked down back-to-back three's after just four minutes of play helping a 10-2 lead forcing a Greyhound time-out. After a few missed shots and handful of turnovers, the Greyhounds were right back in the game leading at the media timeout 19-14.
A 26 point, shooting 53% from the field goal range, to the Greyhounds 11 point run the next 10 minutes gave the Scotties a 40-30 lead in to the half.
Fort Scott's Tyler Zinn scored 25 of the teams points and helped force the Scotties to 20 turnovers compared to their own 13. Highland's bench outscored the Greyhounds 18-9 with Redparth's 20 points and seven rebounds helped a 78-71 victory.
Taiveyhon Mason,
Ryan Haskins,
Alonzo Williams, and
Jaylin Rutherford all scored in double-digits and had 16 assists compared to Fort Scott's nine.
With this win, the men have advanced to the the Region VI Championship Game that will be played at Hartman Arena in Park City, KS on Saturday, March 7th at 3:00PM vs. the Labette Cardinals.
