The #2 Highland Men's basketball team cruised past Ottawa University JV 113-53 to pick up their 18
th win of the season establishing a school record for the longest win streak in school history breaking a mark that was set back in 1967.
The win pushes the Scotties to an 18-0 mark on the season as they used six double figure scorers and their eighth performance of 100+ points to earn the win. The win is also the 21
st straight regular season win and 13-straight home win.
Highland opened the contest in an emphatic way as
Jaquan Daniels scored the first points of the game on a slam dunk, one of six dunks in the game for the Scotties. After the dunk Highland added to their lead opening the game on a 12-0 run before two free throws came for Ottawa to get on the board. The Braves however struggled from the field starting the game 0-12 from the field and not scoring their first field goal until the 9:54 mark in the first half but that time Highland led 31-5.
By halftime the Scotties established a 61-22 lead over Ottawa and in the second half continued to spread the wealth offensively outscoring the Braves 52-31 in the second half to cruise to the 113-53 win.
Scotties for the 11
th time shot over 50% this season going 45-73 from the field to shot 61.6% in the win, while shooting 45.5% from three-point range. On top of shooting the ball well Highland won the rebounding battle 54-22 and posted a season high 28 assists.
Tristen Hull paced the Scotties with 17 points on 8-8 shooting with four rebounds, while both
Amear Johnson and
Luiz Machado Jr. each tallied 15 points. Johnson's 15 points is a new career high as a Scottie and added six rebounds, while Machado also chipped in six rebounds and hit four three's.
Malik Cushon posted a career best 14 points on 7-8 shooting in the win adding six rebounds, while Daniels scored 12 points and had five assists.
Taiveyhon Mason notched double figures for the 18
th time this season scoring 11 points and adding six assists and three assists.

Highland is set to wrap up the non-conference slate on Saturday, January 19
th on the road against State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri at 7:00pm. The Scotties then will turn their attention to Conference play which is slated to start Wednesday, January 23
rd at #10 Johnson County.
