Highland Community College lost their final regular season game of the 2021 KJCCC schedule at Dodge City 27-21 on Saturday. The loss gives Highland a seventh-place finish in the conference and due to a new KJCCC playoff change, the 1-7 Scotties live to fight again and will face Independence in the opening round of the playoffs on November 7.
The game was close in every statistical aspect, with Highland leading in the majority of the offensive categories. The Scotties had more rushing yardage, passing yardage, total yardage, more total plays, and a longer time of possession, but in the end Highland came up a touchdown short of the win. Highland had a good day offensively, with several players contributing to the effort. Quarterback
Darrias Pearsall was 10 for 23 with 149 yards passing and 2 interceptions. Pearsall did rush for 19 yards and two of the three Scottie touchdowns on the day.
Jacquez Gadsden scored the other Scottie touchdown from a 32-yard pass by
Ken Gay.
Deontay Campbell led the game in receiving yards, finishing with 118 yards on six receptions and
Jaheim Atkinson led all Scottie rushing with 69 yards on six carries.
Treveon Henry led the Highland defense with four total tackles, 2.5 Tackles for Loss, a QB sack, and a fumble recovery.
Warren Peeples added to his NJCAA QB Sack total with one sack against the Conquistadors.
