Scottie Baseball traveled to Concordia, Kansas on Tuesday, May 4 to wrap up their 2021 non-conference schedule in a single 9-inning contest versus the T-Birds of Cloud County Community College.
After falling behind 4-0 in the first 3 innings, Highland used 5 run innings in the 5
th and 7
th while adding single runs in the 4
th and the 9
th to win Tuesday's contest 12-10. Highland tallied 19 hits, including a 6 for 6 day from freshman outfielder
Justin Carinci to put up their 12 runs. Sophomore catcher
Gustavo Nava added 3 hits on the day including a home run in the 7
th.
Isaac Nunez added two hits also homering in the 7
th while
Lander Suarez had a 4 hit day, while
Alejandro Pina,
Cristian Suero, and
Jhors Gomez also had hits for the Scotties. After the game Head Coach,
Landon Hay said he was pleased with the overall effort of the offense. "It was great to see us come out hot swinging the bats today, we used today to give some guys a chance to play who have not had as many reps this season and to see those guys perform strongly at the plate while the members of our everyday lineup that played today also perform well is a great thing. Today was definitely a step in the right direction as we prepare for a big weekend vs. Allen."
On the mound
Solomon Rainey gave the Scotties a quality start going 4.2 innings, scattering 3 hits, and striking out 4, Rainey gave way to
Christian Grissell who recorded the final out of the 4
th inning.
Drake Seetin,
Max Milligan,
Luke Wilson, and
Dalton Riechers combined to finish the game for the Scotties on the mound with
Dalton Riechers tallying the first save of his college career. "I thought Sol gave us a great start. He limited damage early, especially as we locked in defensively after making a few errors early. Christian got a huge out for us in the 5
th and the rest of the bullpen did enough to get the job done today. I am excited by what we saw today out of those guys and look forward to seeing them compete this weekend for us!" said Coach Hay.
