Fort Scott, Kan. – On Saturday, Jan. 14, Highland Community College men's and women's basketball teams traveled to Fort Scott Community College to open conference play.
The Scottie women started strong and took a 14-point lead going into halftime, 39-25. Both teams scored 28-points in the second half leading to a 67-55 Highland win. The Lady Scotties shot 41.1% from the floor and could only muster 2-19 from beyond the arc.
Scottie men trailed by 6-points at the half, 34-40. The Scotties outscored Fort Scott 42-40 in the second half. Ultimately, HCC men fell 76-80. The Scotties shot 56.9% from the floor and an impressive 81.9% from the free throw line.
The Scottie women had two players score in double figures.
Kenadi Rising had 16-points, 11-rebounds, and 5-assists while
Brandi Dunn had 12-points and 8-rebounds.
Jayla Bibbs had 14-points and 10-rebounds for Fort Scott.
The Scottie men had three players score in double figures.
Greg Moore led the way with 19-points and 8-rebounds.
RJ Sears had 16-points and
Tyree Green had 15-points.
Fort Scott Community College's Keryn Collins led all scorers with 23-points.
Highland Community College men's and women's basketball teams are back in action on Wednesday, Jan.18, as they travel to take on Neosho County Community College. The Scottie women play at 5:30 p.m., and the Scottie men play at 7:30 p.m.
