After dropping the first 3 games of the weekend to Labette Community College, Highland ended the weekend on a high note by erupting for 22 runs in the series finale on Saturday in Parsons. Scottie bats were hot from the start of the game as they opened with 3 runs in the first inning followed up by 4 more in the second. Labette would answer with 4 runs of their own in the first inning, but the Scottie offense would prove to be too much adding 10 more runs in the middle innings and ultimately hung another 5 runs on the board in the top of the 8
th inning to put the game out of reach for good. 22 runs are the most scored by Highland since 1987 and places this game as the third most runs ever scored by the Scotties.
Freshman
Levi Helm would earn the win on the mound for Highland throwing 4 strong innings, scattering 7 runs, 3 of them earned on 6 hits and striking out 3. Fellow freshman pitchers,
Nick Brubeck,
Wyley Brown and
Kyle Snyder would combine to finish the game on the mound for Highland surrendering just two more runs on only 5 more hits and striking out 8 Cardinal hitters.
There were plenty of offensive highlights throughout the game, but it was home runs by
Filip Sarota,
Dylan Shepherd and
Sean Goings that helped break the game wide open and put Highland in control for good.
Zach Knowlton and
Kyle McConachie each hit doubles and 5 different Scottie hitters recorded at least 3 RBIs in the game. (Knowlton-3, Sarota-3, McConachie-4, Shepherd-3, and Goings-3) Highland also stole a total of 6 bases in game four pushing their season total to 98.
