HIGHLAND, Kan. - While taking on an undefeated, no. 1-ranked, defending national champion is no small task for any coach, it's even tougher coming with just two meaningful days of interaction with your team. That was exactly the challenge facing interim head coach Cameron McGarry, and despite the scoreline, Highland (0-10, 0-6 KJCCC) kept fighting all the way through Saturday's loss to Hutchinson (9-0, 5-0 KJCCC).
Highland was able to somewhat contain an explosive Hutchinson offense, stopping two of three second-quarter drives by the Blue Dragons and forcing a missed field goal in the third quarter.
Melik Reed also had a third-quarter interception for the Scotties, breaking up a Hutch touchdown.
Kahliek Rainey was able to put Highland on the board in the third quarter as well, leading a nine-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 19-yard completion to
Ceedee Williams.
The Scotties close out the 2025 season on the road, taking on Iowa Western in a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday.
