White, Zimmerman Home Runs Not Enough Against #3 Cowley

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. - Taking on the no. 3-ranked team in the country, Highland Community College (7-38, 3-19 KJCCC) saw early home runs from Dylan Zimmerman in game 1 and Isaiah White in game 2, but dropped both games of the doubleheader to Cowley College (33-8, 22-4 KJCCC) on Thursday.

The Scotties opened game one with fireworks, as a Zimmerman belted a two-run shot to follow up a leadoff double from White. Noah Bishop scratched out a one-out single and stole second, with Parker Hansen driving him across with a two-out double.

Cowley answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning and added four more in the second. The Scotties narrowed the deficit to 8-4 in the third with doubles by Zimmerman and Bishop, but HCC wasn't able to close the gap, falling 12-4.

Highland opened the scoring in game two as well, loading the bases after another leadoff double by White. Nolan Wall belted a deep sacrifice fly to center, scoring White, but the Scotties weren't able to clear the base paths.

After Cowley found an equalizer in the bottom of the first, White put HCC up 3-1 with a two-out shot, scoring Hunter Vorndran as well.

The Tigers were able to retake the lead in the bottom of the second and add a pair of runs in the third to take a 7-3 advantage into the fourth.

Highland was able to scratch out a consolation run in the top of the seventh as Bishop drove in Solomon Holmes from second, but it wasn't enough to extend the game as Cowley claimed a 15-4 win.

The teams will close out the four-game Jayhawk Conference series on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Highland Community Ballpark.
