CRESTON, Iowa - Heading into a daunting nine-match road swing, Highland Volleyball (6-0) could not have asked for a better result than Thursday's 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-11) sweep of Southwestern (1-8). The Scotties dominated through all three sets, finishing the first and third sets with service aces.
Highland needed only one run through its service rotation to take care of business in the first set, with
Gracie Klecan serving 15 consecutive points for HCC, including five aces off the Spartan defense.
Southwestern was able to provide a token resistance in the second set, but HCC dialed it up again in the third, with
Cierra Poldberg thundering home back-to-back aces to seal the match after a Southwestern attack error.
Highland heads north this weekend for the Siouxland Invitational. The Scotties open tournament play against a pair of ranked teams, with NJCAA Div. III no. 3 Minnesota West Community and Technical College first on the slate at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
