Jaala Stewart led Highland (22-4) to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-17) win over Southeast (6-21) on Monday night.
Resting a good portion of the lineup in advance of a pair of tough Jayhawk Conference matches, the Scotties traded points with the Bobcats through the opening of the first set, eventually breaking open a 13-8 lead from a 7-7 tie.
After winning her way to the service line with a kill, Stewart sparked Highland on a trio of runs to give the Scotties a 17-9 lead.
Harlee Blackwell finished off the Bobcats, scoring four of HCC's final five points with big kills.
Southeast found a small bit of verve to start the third set, breaking out to a 10-7 lead capped by a block by Brecklyn Hammond and Trinity Geiser.
Highland forced an out-of-system attack error by the Bobcats, putting Stewart at the service line again, following a kill by
Tailyn Kadavy with a service ace to tie the third set at 10-10. Southeast tried to bounce back with a pair of kills by Hammond and Brooklyn Buchmeier, but Highland answered with a Kadavy kill, a roof block on the left side by
Cara Elam and
Cali Honeyman and a Blackwell service ace to claim a 13-12 lead that they would never surrender.
Kills by Stewart, Honeyman and Blackwell closed out the match for Highland, each coming from assists by
Hallie Holthaus.
Highland is on the road for a pair of KJCCC matches, taking on Allen County on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. first serve.
