Prospective Student Athletic Trainer

Dear Prospective Student Athletic Trainer:
Student athletic trainers play a vital role in the continued success of our athletic programs here at Highland Community College. Each student athletic trainer is given the opportunity to participate in all activities directed by the Highland Community College Athletic Training Staff. These duties include assisting with injury prevention, recognition of athletic related injuries, initial management and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries. Student athletic trainers are assigned to work with individual teams and assist with all practice sessions, cover all home events, and often travel with their assigned sport. Because of the nature of college athletics, you must be prepared to occasionally work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and on rare occasion some holidays.
Each student athletic trainer is expected to:
  • Strive for success in the classroom.
  • Correctly demonstrate effective taping, wrapping, and padding techniques.
  • Follow all Athletic Training room procedures.
  • Complete proper first aid care and emergency procedures.
  • Comprehend and administer the correct application of all modalities.
Here at Highland Community College, we are looking for individuals who are willing to learn, have exceptional dependability, sincerity, ability to work without supervision, friendly disposition, demonstrates common sense, can maintain confidentiality, and is loyal to both the college and athletic department.
Academically, student athletic trainers have the opportunity to follow a two-year curriculum designed to prepare one for almost any college or university program. Upon successful completion of the two-year curriculum, you will graduate with an Associate of Science degree. Most student athletic trainers pursue a career in a health, education, or a recreation field.
A scholarship equivalent to book rental and tuition is available to all prospective student athletic trainers. If you feel that this program is the right fit for you, please feel free to email me at tcollins@highlandcc.edu to request a prospective student athletic trainer questionnaire.
We look forward to hearing from you!!!
