Maurice Gray is in his fourth season at Highland Community College and eighth season coaching overall and after serving as Co-Defensive Coordinator in 2018 is now the Scotties lone Defensive Coordinator headed into the 2019 season.
Gray joined the Highland staff starting in the 2016 season and has coached the defensive backs and defense since. After the 2018 season a year in which the Scotties has a school record six interception game and 18 total interceptions which ranked second in the KJCCC and Top 10 in the NJCAA, Gray was named Co-Defensive Backs Coach of the Year by GridironRR.com.
Also during his tenure with the Scotties he helped coach a Scottie defense that finished in the Top 10 in the Nation in 2017 giving up just 17.2 points per game, while leading the second best pass defense in the Jayhawk Conference in 2016 at Highland.
Gray previously coached at Northeast Oklahoma A&M College, Coffeyville Community College and Butler Community College before coming to Highland. He has won two Jayhawk Conference Championships as a coach, coached and recruited over 30 guys who signed to the NCAA Division I level during his coaching career.
The Warner Robbins, Georgia native was a strong football player himself as he earned first team All-KJCCC honors and All-American honors will helping Butler Community College to 12-0 and 11-1 records in 2006 and 2007. In two seasons with Butler, Gray finished with 94 tackles and nine interceptions and helped the Grizzles win a National Championship. After playing at Butler, Gray transferred to Oklahoma State where he played in 22 games in over the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
Gray has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University.
