Sean Washington is entering his 8th season of coaching and his third season with the Scotties. Washington is a native of New Smyrna Beach, FL where he spent time at both New Smyrna Beach High School and Port Orange Atlantic High School as both a player and coach. In 2009 while at Atlantic High School, Washington earned a spot on the All-State team as an honorable mention quarterback for class 3A. He would go on to attend Defiance College, a division III school in Ohio, where he majored in criminal justice and psychology. He would eventually move to receiver and lead the conference in kick return with an average of 23.4% per return.
At the conclusion of his playing career, Washington returned home and became the wide receiver coach at New Smyrna Beach High School. In his three years as an assistant, he served as the junior varsity head coach, landing three wide receivers in three years on the varsity all-district team.
In 2018, Washington became the quarterback coach and special teams coordinator at Port Orange Atlantic where they turned in their first winning season in six years and posted more wins than the previous three years combined. In 2019, Washington took the role of defensive coordinator/linebackers coach where the defense posted a new school record of 25 takeaways and gave up 12.4 points per game. Atlantic continued the streak with back-to-back winning seasons for the second time in school history. That year, they also achieved the second playoff victory in school history and tied the school record for wins in a season.
In December of 2019, Washington was hired as the youngest head coach in the state of Florida by Pine Ridge High School. After a short stint there, he moved to Mississippi Valley State University. Washington served as the tight ends coach during the Covid-19 season before moving to coach the cornerbacks in the 2021 season. His defensive unit helped guide the Delta Devils to the most wins since 2012 and ranked first in the conference in interceptions and 23rd in the FCS.
