Jordon O’Brien enters her 3rd year as Head Coach of the Highland women’s basketball team.
O’Brien makes the move to the Scotties after most recently working as an assistant coach at Dodge City Community College (2018-20). She embarked on her coaching career by starting as a graduate assistant for one season at Western Illinois (2010-11) and then joined the Jayhawk Conference as an assistant coach at Independence (2011-12 – team went 24-6 and finished ranked #20 in final National poll) then made the move to Iowa Central Community College where she was an assistant for two years before serving as the head coach from 2014-2016. As an assistant at Iowa Central she was a part of teams that posted a 51-16 record in two seasons and earned a trip to the NJCAA DII National Tournament in 2013. During her tenure as Head Coach at Iowa Central her Lady Tritons posted a 20-12 record in her first season and 16-8 record in 2015-16 making trips to the Region XI Semifinals each year.
In 2016, Jordon continued her coaching career by making the jump to MIAA as an assistant coach at Missouri Southern State University and spent two years there before returning to the Jayhawk Conference as an assistant at Dodge City.
The Altamont, Kansas native played her collegiate ball at Western Illinois were she earned All-Summit League honors and was a three-time Academic All-League selection. O’Brien set the Western Illinois record for most games played in a career with 119, while she also ranks fourth in career free throw percentage, seventh in career three-pointers made and was voted team MVP in 2009-10. After completing her college playing career she played one year with the Chicago Steam of the American Basketball Association.
In high school at Labette County she was a four-year starter that earned three first-team All-Conference honors along with two first-team All-Area selections and All-State selection with Top 10 Player All-Class honor from the Wichita Eagle in 2006. She helped the Lady Grizzles earn back-to-back trips to the KSHSAA State Tournament and earn third place and a runner-up finish in Class 4A in 2005-06 and 2004-05, respectively.
O’Brien earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Western Illinois University and earned her master’s degree in Health, PE & Recreation at Emporia State University.
