Scotties Tame Tigers in 90-45 Victory

The Highland Men's Basketball team dominated the paint Monday night scoring 70 or their 90 points down low and went on to defeat Doane College JV 90-45.

It wasn't a lights out shooting performance for the Scotties but there down low presence and defense made up for it. Highland only made four three-point shots on the night, but it didn't matter as they shot the ball 56% from inside the arc and scored 70 points down low. They owned the glass out rebounding the Tigers 51-29.

Defensive pressure helped the Scotties hold the Tigers to shooting 23% from the floor and 27% from behind the arc. Highland forced 11 turnovers and had eight steals. They turned Doane turnovers into Highland points; scoring 15 points off of steals. They didn't make it easy for Doane shooters as Highland recorded eight blocks on the night.

Dontre English missed one shot all night and it came on a free throw. English went 9-9 from the floor and 4-5 from the free throw line. He finished with 22 points and two assists. Jaquan Daniels had another big night scoring 22 points, shooting 2-2 from three-point range and grabbing two boards.

Leland Harvey and Will Peabody both had season highs scoring 10 points each. Peabody grabbed five rebounds as Harvey pulled down four. D'Juan Scudder put up eight points but it was his defense and rebounding that came through. Scudder grabbed five rebounds and had four blocked shots. Ryan Haskins led the team in rebounding and assists pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out five assists.

"We played with a lot more energy defensively and created some opportunities and easy scoring chances; something we haven't done in quite some time," commented Coach Jerre Cole in his post-game press conference.

Highland improves to 12-4 on the year and will host Conference and Region rival Johnson County CC on Saturday, January 14th at 3:00pm in Ben Allen Field House.
