Scotties Shoot Their Way to 14th Win

It didn't take long for Ryan Haskins to pick up where he left off on Wednesday shooting the ball from behind the arc. Haskins came out and drained two three-point shots two minutes into the game and never looked back as Highland defeated the University of Saint Mary Junior Varsity 88-46 for win number 14 on the year.

The 5-11 freshman point-guard from Osage City, KS led his team to victory on Wednesday night on the road at Hesston scoring 17 points and knocking down some shots late in the game to seal the victory. Tonight, Haskins hot shooting carried over to his fellow teammate Collin Jasper, as the Troy, KS sophomore, went 4-5 from three-point range and finished with a game high 16 points. "After my first shot from the corner hit the backboard and banked in, I didn't think much could go wrong for me after that," commented Jasper in his post-game interview.

Highland shot lights out in the first half to jump out to a 42-16 lead heading into the locker room. Their defensive pressure held the Spires to shooting only 16% from the field and scoring only 16 points through the first 20 minutes.

The second half saw the same high percentage of shots going in for the Scotties as Highland shot 58% from the floor and 38% from three. The Spires started to get shots to fall in the second half knocking down 7-15 three-pointers but it was too little too late as Highland went on to win 88-46.

Collin Jasper led all scorers with 16 points followed by D'Juan Scudder with 15 points & six rebounds. Ryan Haskins went 4-6 from three-point range and finished with 14 points & four assists. Stephon Jackson added 10 points and eight rebounds.

"I was pleased with our performance. I thought we played hard, especially defensively, and we were able to control the game," commented Head Coach Jerre Cole after the win.

The Scotties improved to 14-4 on the year and will take on conference opponent Johnson County CC on Monday night, from Ben Allen Field House at 7:30pm.
