Scotties score 21-runs in Monday’s Win, most since 2004

It isn't often you bat around the lineup without the opposing team recording a single out. It is also rare to score 12-runs in a single inning. Monday afternoon, the Scottie baseball team did both and defeated the University of Saint Mary Junior Varsity team 21-10 in a 7-inning run rule.

Highland came out firing in the first inning scoring 12-runs, six of which came before a single out was recorded. Bradey Miller led the charge hitting a 2-RBI double his first at bat and then he hit a 2-run Home Run in his second at bat of the inning. Joshuan Batista and Mitchell Austin each hit a 2-RBI double while Phoenix Keller and Anthony Nichols both added in RBI singles.

The Spires continued to fight scoring runs in all but the first and third innings. They would finish the game with 10-runs but that would be enough as Highland tacked on 1-run in the fourth, 5-runs in the fifth and 3-runs in the seventh.

Mitchell Austin hit a 2-RBI walk-off triple to end the game in 7-innings with a final score of 21-10.

Hunter Idol got the win pitching four complete innings giving up four runs on five hits. He struck out six and walked three.

Bradey Miller finished the game 3-4 with 4-RBI's while Mitchell Austin went 2-5 with 4-RBI's. Phoenix Keller ended 2-5 with 3-RBI's and 3-runs scored. Keishon Brown added 3-RBI's while catcher Joshuan Batista had a nice outing going 2-4 with 2-RBI's and 2-runs scored.

21-runs scored is the most Highland has scored in a single game since 2004 when they defeated Broome (NY) 21-6.

The Scotties are now 15-25 on the season and 6-18 in KJCCC East play. They will take on non-conference opponent Rockhurst University JV Tuesday at 3:00pm in Highland in a (1) 9-inning contest. There next conference action will be Thursday afternoon as the Scotties play host to the Cowley College Tigers. That will be a double-header starting at 1:00pm in Highland, KS.
