After the third winning season under Head Coach
Aaron Arnold in his five seasons the Scotties who finished 2018 with a 6-4 record have had three players earn NJCAA All-American honors.
With three All-American honorees it marks the second straight year the Highland football team has had three All-Americans and gives Coach Arnold nine All-Americans in his tenure at Highland.
Sophomore's,
Damarion Williams and
Reco Hannah along with freshman,
Ryan Schemtob picked All-Americans after great seasons. Williams earned first team All-American honors at defensive back giving the Scotties three first team All-Americans over the past four years. Second team honors went to Schemtob at kicker as he is the third player in Highland history to earn All-American honors on special teams. While Hannah picked up honorable mention All-American honors giving the Scotties an All-American linebacker in three of the past four seasons.Â
Williams capped his Highland career matching a school record for single season interceptions with seven this season and led the Nation in interceptions and pass breakups (17). He added 48 tackles, a fumble recovery and 2.5 sacks to his season. Williams was also part of a school record six interception game by the Scottie defense in a win over Coffeyville, as he recorded four of the six in the contest. The sophomore earned first team All-KJCCC honors this season, KJCCC "Player of the Week" twice and National "Player of the Week" once. He capped his two-year career at Highland with 73 tackles and 10 interceptions.
Schemtob etched his name in the history books for Highland this year as he recorded the three longest field goals in school history including a Nation long and school record 54-yard field goal against Garden City. He finished the year going 12-17 in field goals, 26-28 extra points, had a 58.2 yard average on kickoffs and even punted a few times. His 12 field goals are the most made in a single season in school history. Schemtob picked up first team All-KJCCC honors this season and KJCCC "Player of the Week" twice.
Hannah finished his Scottie career with a 90 tackle season good for tenth most in a single season, while finishing fourth all-time in school history in tackles with 153 in his career. The sophomore linebacker added 6.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and a school record 100-yard pick six to his season. On top of his 153 career tackles Hannah finished his Scottie career with 12 sacks, 29.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions.
The trio helped the Scotties finish the 2018 6-4 and ranked #17 in the final NJCAA rankings and now give Highland football 30 All-Americans in program history.
