Highland hosted a mid-week game against the Ottawa Braves University Development Team on Tuesday afternoon.
Blake Van Hercke was on the mound for the Scotties through four full innings, throwing four of the teams 10 strikeouts and got the eventual win.
The Braves scored the first run of the game in the top of the second but the Scotties got hot in the bottom starting out with a double by Jordan Henning followed by Tyler Watson with an RBI single to center field. Shane Drolet scored Watson on a triple to deep center field. Zack Hill rounded out the runs in the second with a sacrifice fly to left field, leading 3-1
Chris Procopio kept the runs going in the bottom of the 3rd with a single to left field scoring Ke'Shawn Ballard. Jordan Henning hit his first home run of the season, a 3 run home run over the right field fence to extend the score 7-1.
The Braves answered back in the top of the fourth with an RBI double by Ryan Frazier and an RBI single to center field by Jestin Garcia bringing the score 7-3.
The bottom of the 5th saw back-to-back home runs, first by Tanner Williams followed by Chris Procopio; Scotties now leading 9-3.
Five freshman Scotties saw the mound in the final five innings of the game; Cole Petersen, Zackery Biddison, Jake Cleveringa, Javian Stone, and Skyler Zirkle.
Ottawa threatened a come-back in the top of the 9th with a two run home run but Skyler Zirckle ended the inning with a with Highland winning 9-5.
The Scotties (8-9, 2-6) will continue with conference play on Thursday, March 15th travelling to Fort Scott, KS to take on the Greyhounds (21-3, 7-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00PM.
