Box Score 2 The Highland Scotties kept the crowd on the edge of their seat in the extra innings in game two after losing the first game to the Greyhounds 1-6. In the bottom of the 11th inning, the Scotties were facing a great scenario with bases loaded only one out with Chris Procopio up to the plate. A hit in that bounced over the short stop secured the 13-12 victory.
Game one
Zaine Foth-Thomas started on the mound for Highland holding the Greyhounds scoreless through the first two innings.
Rafael Lara came in to pitch in the 5th after a 3-0 lead by the Greyhounds but was relieved by
Javian Stone in the 6th.
Ke'Shawn Ballard hit a lead off solo home run to open up the bottom of the 6th to get a run on the board for the Scotties but would eventually lose 1-6 by Fort Scott.
Game two
The Scotties came out firing in the bottom of the 6th after a quick 2-0 lead scoring six runs starting off with
Mason Nagle and Connor Fiene each hitting an RBI single to tie the game 2-2.
Dalton Burt and
Shane Drolet both doubled to right field, scoring four more runs to lead 6-2. It quickly turned to a 8-2 lead after the 2nd with a single by Nagle and a sacrifice from
Josue Ortiz.
The Greyhounds found their fire and started closing the gap.
Liam Fox started on the mound and saw 4.1 innings and four strike-outs before
Tony Horn came in in the 5th with the score tied 8-8. Fort Scott's A. Morrow hit a ball out of the park to help a 10-8 lead before
Chris Giordano came in to pitch in the top of the 7th delivering three quick outs.
Jared Wells replaced Giordano in the 8th and the Greyhounds earned another run. Connor Fiene hit a hard ball to the left field fence to score
Justin Rieschick and
Adam Miner for a triple to get the Scotties within one. Ortiz singled to right field on a 2-1 count to tie the game 11-11.
Jordan Henning put the Scotties ahead with an RBI single to left field before the inning was over.
With a tie game 12-12 after the 9th inning,
Caleb Underwood came in to finish the game with an eventual win.
Both the Scotties and the Greyhounds threatened runs in the 10th but the Scottie defense held strong with a diving catch in right field by Ortiz and the throw out at 2nd for the double play pushed the game in to the 11th.
Three quick outs in the top gave the Scotties the drive to go ahead. With the bases loaded, one out, and Chris Procopio up to the mound, a hit over the short stop on a 2-2 count, gave the Scotties the victory they earned.
The team is now 9-10 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. Highland will travel to Fort Scott, KS on Saturday the 17th to finish out the series with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00PM.
