CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Highland Community College garnered 55 NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athletes - including 21 First Team honorees with a perfect 4.0 GPA - among the 13,195 nationwide honorees announced by the association this week. Among HCC's honored student-athletes are 13 two-time All-Academic team selections led by
Parker Hansen (baseball) and
Samantha Nordhus (volleyball). Both sophomores earned back-to-back First Team nods, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA through their time in the classroom at Highland.
To earn All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must earn a grade-point average of 3.60 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher over two full-time semesters, completing 24 credit-hours during the academic year. First Team All-Academic honors are awarded to student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA, with Second Team honors conferred to student-athletes earning a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99, and Third Team accolades conferred to student-athletes earning a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.
Baseball led all teams with 11 All-Academic selections, with five First Team honorees and four repeat winners. Nine Football student-athletes were named All-Academic recipients, with four First Team honorees. Volleyball saw seven student-athletes earn All-Academic recognition, with three First Team honorees and three repeat winners, followed by Women's Soccer and Softball with six honorees each. Softball held a slight edge with two repeat honorees and three First Team selections.
This year's All-Academic class continues the upward trend for Highland, as 44 student-athletes earned All-Academic recognition during the 2023-24 academic year, up from 40 student-athletes in 2022-23.
