As the Highland softball team prepares for Regionals the Scotties continue to celebrate a great season thus far as eight Scotties picked up All-Conference honors in the KJCCC.
Scotties wrapped up the regular season with a 30-10 record and 15-5 mark in the KJCCC Division II to win a share of the Conference title.
Leading the way for the All-KJCCC honors for Highland softball is a quartet of players earning first team honors as the Scotties had
Alexis Hodapp,
Isabella Konieczka and
Chevelle Sartin each get the first team nod in the infield at first base, second base and shortstop respectively. While in the outfield
Hannah Schmidt picked up first team honors.
Second team All-KJCCC honors were earned by both
Alyssa Wesley and
Bailey Lacy, while both
Kami Zimmerman and
Cassidy Greer each picked up honorable mention All-KJCCC honors.
Hodapp in her sophomore year has been an anchor for the Scotties at first base and in the batting lineup as she leads the team in batting and RBI's, hitting .505 on the season which also leads the Conference and has registered 52 RBI's. She also leads the Conference in on base percentage (.600), while recording 46 hits this season with 29 runs scored and 16 walks. She has 14 extra bases hits including eight doubles, her first collegiate triple and five home runs.
Konieczka came in as a freshman and made big impact in the middle infield and at the top of the batting order. Bella on the season is batting .424 with the second most hits and runs scored on the team with 56 and 52, respectively. She's also been a force on the base pads stealing 40 bases good for fourth most in a single season in school history and ranking her second in the KJCCC. She's added a team best 20 walks on the season with 13 RBI's, also.
Sartin has also jumped into the fold nicely for the Scotties as a freshman this season as she like Konieczka has played in all 40 games this season. Chevelle has been strong in the mid infield and towards the top of the lineup for Highland as she leads the team in hits and runs scored with 62 in each category and leads the Conference in runs scored. She is hitting .488 on the season which checks in third in the Conference and has a team best 11 doubles and 11 home runs on the season, adding three triples, 44 RBI's, nine walks and 14 stolen bases.
Another freshman that put together a strong season for the Scotties is
Hannah Schmidt who throughout the season solidify her spot on the team in the outfield. Schmidt in 33 games hit .373 with 28 hits, 25 runs scored and 29 RBI's. She notched nine doubles, four home runs including a grand slam, five walks and 11 stolen bases.
Wesley proved to a strong sophomore for the Scotties throughout the season being a staple out in center field throughout the season. Wes racked up 33 hits, 25 runs scored and 21 RBI's with a .351 batting average in 37 games. She recorded nine doubles and three home runs, while stealing 14 bases and drawing nine walks.
Lacy slipped into the prime spot for the Scotties as a top pitcher on the team appearing in 21 games with 17 starts throughout the season amassing a 14-5 record with two saves, 12 complete games and tossing 102.1 innings. She carries a sub four ERA at 3.98 on the season tossing 59 strikeouts on the year and has given up just 36 walks this year.
Zimmerman after a strong freshman campaign has put together a sophomore year that has been solid as she is hitting .340 on the season with 18 hits, 12 runs scored and 17 RBI's with five walks, a double and a home run.
Greer has been a firm presence behind the plate at catcher for the Scotties over the course of the season and has been solid at the plate, too. She is batting .294 on the season with 20 hits, 25 runs scored and 12 RBI's adding 17 walks, a double and 19 steals which is second most on the team.
Scotties one up their total of All-Conference players from last year finishing with eight which matches the most under Coaches Heidi and
Scott Jordan as the Scotties had eight All-Conference players in 2016. The eight All-KJCCC honorees also gives Heidi and Scott 71 All-Conference players in their 15 seasons.
Highland looks to keep their season rolling along as they take the diamond on Saturday, May 11
th at Noon to play in the Region VI District E Tournament in Topeka, Kansas at Hummer Park and will play Neosho County in their first game of the tournament.
