As Highland athletics prepares for the 2019-20 school year and competition on the field, court and etc. the Athletic department has bolstered up the athletic training room with the hiring of an Assistant Athletic trainer.

Sydney Markt joins the Highland athletic staff as taking on the role of Assistant Athletic trainer with working Head Athletic Trainer, Tia Collins to oversee all 10 Scottie athletic programs. Markt comes into the role at Highland with a degree in athletic training and some prior experience.

She earned her Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training with a minor in Kinesiology from Kansas State University and is currently in pursuit of her Masters of Exercise Science and Health Promotions from California University of Pennsylvania. Her Masters concentration is Sport Psychology.

The Oregon, Missouri native has a year of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer with Athletico Physical Therapy and M14 Hoops.

"Having the opportunity to become a part of the Highland community and Athletic department is gratifying to me. I plan to contribute to the Athletic department at Highland Community College in a way that helps every individual grow and flourish. I hope to communicate and bring my simple, small town personality along with me on this journey," said Markt when talking about the opportunity to join the Highland Athletic department.

After a year without a full-time assistant trainer, Head Athletic trainer, Tia Collins is excited to have Markt join the training room at Highland.

"I'm looking forward to having a full-time Assistant trainer back in the athletic training room this year. Adding Sydney to our staff will be great for Highland athletics as she will allow us in the training room to continue to be able give the student athlete's great coverage and attention to help them in their respective sports," said Collins on the hiring of Markt.
