Highland Football Falls Short in Conference Battle

On Sunday, the Highland football team hosted a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matchup at Porter Family Stadium. The Scotties fell to the Coffeyville Red Ravens 30-0 and move to 1-2 in the first season under head coach, Jeff Hancock.

There are rarely offensive highlights for a team that posts no points on the scoreboard and Sunday was no exception for the Scotties. Highland could only muster 114 total offensive yards on the day (78 passing, 36 rushing). Coffeyville finished the day with 322 offensive yards (88 passing, 234 rushing).
Highland played a strong first half of the game, holding the Red Ravens to 7 points. The Scotties' defense was worn down by Coffeyville and ultimately, they couldn't sustain the pressure, allowing 23 points in the second half of the game.

Defensive highlights on the day for the Scotties came from fumble recoveries by Kevin Smith and Jalen Angelle. Angelle also recorded a forced fumble during the game. Stephan Peterman added an acrobatic interception for Highland in the 3rd quarter, accompanied by an 18-yard return.

Despite the score, Defensive Coordinator Jake Landoll was still able to find a positive message for his players and the fans of the Scottie Nation. "Our guys came to play, we are thin in spots on defense and we ask those guys to play a physical game for 60 minutes. Credit Coffeyville for landing more punches than we did. We'll reload and get ready for Indy. Every week in this conference is filled with nationally ranked teams and tough opponents. We will continue to work hard and improve", said Coach Landoll.

Highland Community College will celebrate Homecoming and the Class of 1970 this weekend as the Scotties host the Independence Pirates on Saturday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live starting at 12:45 p.m. on the Scottie Sports Network.
