Scotties Compete At NJCAA Cross Country Championships

Tallahassee, FL – On Saturday, Nov. 12, Tyrese Bishop and Sam Pyle represented Highland Community College at the 2022 NJCAA Cross Country Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. Two days before the meet, Hurricane Nicole made its way through the Sunshine State and through the Tallahassee area. None of the athletes competing were allowed to preview the course on Thursday, so had to wait until Friday to preview half of the course.

By Saturday morning, the rain was gone and Tallahassee was very hot and humid, but  the Championship events were held.

The two Highland runners toed the line along with 200 of the best D-I Junior College athletes in the entire nation. At the finish, Tyrese Bishop finished 102 (nearly in the top half of the field), and Sam Pyle finished 156.

Highland Community College Head Track and Field and Cross Country Coach, Kathy Graham, said, "It was a great learning experience for them. Tyrese led us off well, and Sam put up a good fight. It was a great foundational experience for the Highland team. They need to see the national meet: how tough the competition is, all the tactics put down in the race, the fortitude it takes to stay on task and compete, compete, compete!"
