Highland Scotties Compete In 75th Annual KT Woodman Classic

The Highland Scotties Track and Field team traveled to Wichita State last weekend to compete in the 75th Annual KT Woodman Classic. The meet played host to over 40 teams from the region, including Missouri, Oklahoma and American Athletic Conference distance powerhouse Tulsa.

Alexis O'Farrell qualified for the NJCAA outdoor national meet with a qualifying distance in the javelin of 36.55m (119'11"). O'Farrell placed 12th at the highly competitive Woodman Classic.

Other highlights of the meet were: Dayjahney Hibbert placing 5th in the triple jump with a jump of 11.39m (37'4.5"). Hibbert also placed 8th in the high jump with a jump of 1.59m (5'2.5"). Kayly Guthrie also scored for the Scotties, placing 8th in the 100m with a time of 12.27.

On the men's side the Scotties struggled with injuries and performances that lacked the spark of previous meets. After the meet head coach Kathy Graham stopped by the Scottie Sports Network to breakdown the weekend's action for the men's squad. "We just need to get back to the passion of competition", said coach Graham. "We have been so-so in practice and we competed just like that. This is the part of the season, which makes or breaks an athlete. We can either rise up and finish strong, or we will just peter out and shuffle through to the end.  We want to bring a tougher mentality every day. To bring a championship effort and attitude every day. We missed that this week, but we plan to get back to where we want to be."

The Scotties head to the University of Central Missouri this weekend for the UCM Outdoor Mule Relays as they prepare for the upcoming NJCAA Region VI Championship meet on May 4th.
